Silk processing
Degumming
Degumming is the process of removing silk gum (sericin) from raw silk fibres. Sericin is an adhesive substance produced by silkworms (bombyx mori) during cocoon production and can affect the properties of silk fibers.
The lubricants or agents used in this context are often called “degumming lubricants” and are intended to facilitate the removal of sericin during the silk fiber treatment process.
